Sponsored Abseil - Sat 24th March 2012

To help raise funds for the club and its on going development we will be holding a sponsored abseil on Sat 24th March 2012.

We have engaged the services of Montrose based company "Highway 2" to help us abseil down Northwaterbridge viaduct.(75ft)

Anyone P6 and up (adult/child) can take part so long as you have a min sponsorship of £50.00.

More details will be emailed out in the new year.

Last weekend ( Sunday 18.9.11) saw all the Montrose juniors go through to Brechin for the first local fixture of the season. The weather held for us while all ages played some excellent fun rugby. A huge thank you to all the kids that helped Brechin out by playing for them.

Last weekend saw the first home fixture of the 2011/12 season taking place at union park.

We welcomed Carnoustie at all ages (P1 to P7) to a sunny Union park for a morning of fun filled rugby.

All the teams showed great rugby spirit and everyone got a chance to take part , new to rugby or experienced.

The next home fixture is on 2nd October against Blairgowrie.

Sponsored Cycle- Sat 2nd July

The juniors, seniors and parents that took part.

On Sat 2nd July the junior section of the rugby club took on the challenge of completeing 400 laps of union park to help raise funds for next season. Everyone got involved and cycled, walked and ran around union park to complete the challenge. A special mention to Joe Gibbons (P7) who was determined to cycle 50 laps of union park a staggering 15 1/2 miles.

While we were going around Union Park the senior team as well as some parents took on the challenge of cycling around Montrose basin numerous times. Well done to John Simpson ,Callum's dad( P1) for completing 6 laps , a total of 66 miles.

Angus Rugby Summer Camp

From 18th July to 21st July Stewart Ross is holding an Angus wide rugby camp. This is open to anyone that played in P4 to S2 last season (2010/11).

Its £30.00 for the four days from 10.00am to 3pm.

Lathallan 7's

On Sat 30th April our P6/7 squad went to the Lathallan 7's tournament. This is the first time this event has been held and our Montrose team played excellently.

Each team had to play 10 mins of rugby and the Montrose side soon showed that they had been training hard. Their off loading, support and communication was fantastic.They came 3rd overall just missing out to the overall winners Aberlour.

Well done to them all .

The Great Leg Wax. - Sun 3rd April

The Brave Four, Alistair, Fraser, Duncan and Stewart.

On Sunday April 3rd, Alistair Grove-White, Fraser McKay, Duncan Campbell and Stewart Ross are going to get their legs waxed at Union Park! This is to help raise funds for our new Community Coach - Fraser Mckay (2nd from the left).
From August 2011, Fraser will be employed by the SRU and Montrose Rugby for two years to help increase the number of children taking part in rugby in the Montrose area.
The club has to part-fund this and in order to help the process these 4 brave men have offered their legs!

Dinner and Ceilidh - Sat 26th March 2011

This year we are holding a whole club, family and friends dinner and ceilidh on Sat 26th March at the Links Hotel Montrose.

Tickets are £40.00 per head for a fabulous 3 three course meal and dancing to the Wayne Robertson band.

Tables are avaliable of 10 or 12 and individuals and couples are very welcome.

An auction will also be held on the night with prizes including a signed Scotland rugby shirt , a signed Joe Calzaghe boxing glove and many more. If anyone would like to place a bid but cant make the night please contact Caroline on the email below.

Training - Wrap up Warm!

Due to the weather, we will not be holding normal training today for minis. However, we will be opening the clubhouse this morning to allow people to pick up training kit and there will be a run around for anyone who wants to join in.

For those coming along, please wrap up warm (hats, gloves, jackets, trousers…).

On Friday 5th Nov 25 minis and S1/2 went to Murrayfield for the Edinburgh v Benneton match.

Montrose were lucky enough to be asked to act as guard of honor at the start of the match and half time as well as doing the halftime entertainment on the trackside at Murrayfield.

Thank you to all the dads and youth coaches that came along to help look after the kids.

A huge thank you to Caroline, Doc and Stewart for organising it all for us.

Minis at Blairgowrie Tournament.

P4/5 on the move against Arbroath

Micros at Blairgowrie.

On Sunday 31st we all went to Blairgowrie for the annual tournament. We entered teams at micros (p2/3), P4/5 (2 teams) and P6/7. All the teams played matches against Blairgowrie, Arbroath, Carnoustie, Panmure and Kinross. All teams showed excellent running, passing and support . A huge thank you to all the parents that ferried kids to Blairgowrie and back even stopping at MacDonalds on the way home!

At the moment we have the following sizes of boots in the boot swap box: 13 ,1.5 ,2 ,3 ,4 ,5 ,5.5 ,7.5 ,8 ,9.

Please let us know if you would like to swap any, its £2.00 to swap a pair and £5.00 to take a pair with no swap.

On Sunday 17th Oct we took all the juniors P1 to S2 to Forfar for an away fixture with Strathmore.

All the children played extremly well showing off all the new skills that they have been learning throughout the season.

Minis at Arbroath

The P4/5's at Arbroath - Sunday 29th August

Last Sunday saw 30 boys and girls from Montrose minis travel to Arbroath for the first matches of the season.
We managed to field two P4/5 teams both of which played excellent rugby.
The P6/7 team won with Angus C, Jay F and Ryan G scoring tries.
Well done to everyone for taking part and thank you to Arbroath for having us , the cakes were a big hit !
